First Post and a Tutorial!

For my first post I have decided to do a tutorial on how to make one of my wooden signs.

The first step is to find a board that is the size that you want your finished sign to be.  For this sign I chose a 1 by 6 that is 20 inches long.

You also need to gather your supplies:

paint
paper plate
paper towels
paint brushes and stencil brushes
sandpaper
paste wax

First you need to paint the board whatever color you want the background to be.
I also paint the back of my signs so that they will have a finished look.  By painting the back you will also be able to display it in different ways.

Next, you need to cut yourself a stencil or you may use a ready made one.
I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut my stencil out of vinyl.  You could use your cricut or another type of cutter.

I then apply the transfer material to my stencil just like I would apply it to a vinyl decal.
When it is ready.   I transfer it to my wood board.

It is now applied to the board.

The next thing to do is to stencil the wording to the board.
I have found that pantone paints work great, but you can also use acrylic paints, if you choose.

Here is the board after the stencil is removed.

Now you need to grab your sand paper and sand away to give your sign a distressed look.
You can distress as much or as little as you like.
It is entirely up to you.

After you have distressed your sign to the desired look then you will need to give your sign a good coat of paste wax to protect it from the elements.
